Hailed as one of strongest new female voices in the contemporary reggae scene by the genre’s movers and shakers, Janine Cunningham, aka Jah9 is also considered as the creator of the Jazz on Dub subgenre, blending her jazz influences with dancehall and dub elements. Having started out on the underground live poetry circuit, she gradually started to immerse herself in music more and more, developing the sound that has brought her to the attention of reggae audiences worldwide. It’s worth mentioning that Jah9 is also a sought-after artist by her peers, and has collaborated with several artists, among them top producer Donovan Bennett, Sheldon Bernard, Beres Hammond and Rory Gilligan of Stone Love International.
Gilligan, aka Rory Stone Love, is a regular Jah9 collaborator, and besides having produced several of Jah9’s releases, also owns the most popular sound system in the Jamaican and world reggae scene. He will also be accompanying Jah9 when the Queen of Reggae Revival visits Malta later this month to perform at the Garden of Eden in Zurrieq on Saturday, April 25. Music apart, the event will also feature Yoga on Dub sessions, vegetarian and vegan food & drink from Juul’s Kitchen and Bar. There will also be a series of workshops to promote unity between the people by Rastafarian elder Kukuwa Abba held at various places on different dates. For more information, click here.
