He is probably better known as the voice, the frontman of leading Maltese rock band Winter Moods but, besides the band, Ivan Grech is involved in a hundred and one other things. Among these is a solo project that has, until recently at least, been kept fairly low profile. With Winter Moods currently on a break before reconvening to focus on their next release, Grech has stepped out on his own - well not entirely, since he will be accompanied by a line-up of seasoned musicians – to perform his first live solo concert, and it will all be happening at Pjazza Teatru Rjal on Friday, August 19.
It goes without saying that his live set will of course include a number of memorable hits from Winter Moods’ repertoire but, further to this, Grech will also be covering songs by other artists; songs that left an impact on him and have continued to influence and inspire him through the years. “This is quite a huge step for me” Grech commented, adding that such an event has been on his mind for a long time. “This concert will be a musical journey, going back in time and bringing together those songs that first motivated me to get into music and songwriting, as well as songs that influenced my music career and which collectively make up the soundtrack of my life." Among these, one finds classic hits from the likes of Depeche Mode, Elvis Presley and U2.
Ivan Grech will be accompanied Jeremy Micallef and David Cassar Torregiani on guitars, Conrad Dimech on guitars and keyboards, David Ciantar on keyboards, Robert Galea on bass and Raphael Tonna on drums. The backing vocalists will be Dario Bezzina and Amanda Dimech and there will be some special guests joining Grech on the night.
This concert is organized by Striped Sox.
