Close to 150 entries were submitted for this year's edition of the L-Għanja tal-Poplu music festival, which this year is being twinned with the Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija. The first phase of the selection process will be held this weekend, when a panel of industry experts will listen to the 144 submissions and vote for their preferences.
Further to this first phase, those songs making it through will undergo another selection process next week, as a result of which the finalist entries that will participate in the festival in July will be chosen.
The semi-final of the festival will be held on Thursday, July 7, with the final night taking place the following Saturday, July 9 at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, in Valletta. L-Għanja Tal-Poplu-Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija is being organized by the L-Għanja Tal-Poplu committee with the support of Spazju Kreattiv, Arts Council Malta, PBS, Pjazza Teatru Rjal and the Valletta 2018 Foundation. The PBS Orchestra will be participating in the festival in collaboration with the composers of the qualifying songs.
