Happy is the latest single from Winter Moods; the fourth song lifted off the band’s most recent album The Journey and most certainly one that will grab a good chunk of radio airplay too. The official music video for the song (filmed and edited by Motion Blur), was released on the same day as the single. The footage was shot during the band's memorable 30th anniversary concert, which took place last June at in Fort St Elmo. The concert also raised over €40k for Puttinu Cares.
Markedly different from the larger part of Winter Moods' more recent releases, Happy is rather reminiscent of the mood and feel that fuelled the band's critically-acclaimed Morning Ale album, which had taken the local music scene by storm back in 2000. “This song reminds us of the great times we had recording The Journey", the band's singer Ivan Grech said in a comment. "It has a certain attitude, and while the lyrics are inherently sarcastic, it still projects a positive feeling". Another element that sets the song apart from other Winter Moods songs is the distinctive brass presence, not so common in the band's signature sound. "We all had an extra bit of fun with it at the studio and this is also clearly evident when we perform it live. The song just creates a great vibe, the crowd joins in automatically...it's uplifting".
Written by Grech and recorded and produced by David Vella at Temple Studios, Happy features Mark Farrugia on trumpet and Dennis ‘Kurun’ Camilleri on trombone. The song follows in the success of previous hits such as Days of My Life, Everlasting and Flowers & Cash, all of which topped local radio charts.
Winter Moods are supported by Renault, Hamilton Travel, DAB, BMIT Ltd. and Olimpus Music.
