Just under a year ago, on September 17, 2013, Pavlos Fyssas was stabbed to death in Athens by a member of the far-right Golden Dawn movement. Fyssas, a respected rap artist and activist who went by the name of Killah P, was well-known for his anti-fascist leanings, and used his music to campaign again the rise of neo-fascism in his country and beyond.
Valletta hangout and bar Ġugar will be hosting a hiphop open mic night from 8.30pm onwards on Friday, September 19 in his memory. The night will feature appearances from Sempliċiment tat-Triq, Majċa (Umannimali), Digby (Chapter Zero) and Sirus (Furban Malti). Any beatboxers and MCs who want to join in and spit are welcome. Entrance is free but a donation at the door is expected.
I will not shed a tear and I will not be afraid
I will not let them steal my dreams
I fly free, high, very high
