Good music being shared for a great cause! That's always been the aim of Simon's Pub Music Festival, and not only is the popular festival back, but it's also turning 20! To celebrating this milestone, the team behind Simon’s Pub Music Festival has been working hard to put on a bigger and better edition. TUNED IN TO TURNING 20

"20 years ago, Nirvana and I joked about how old we would be during Teatru Unplugged 20". So reads the introduction in this year's concert programme from Jonathan Shaw who, along with the deeply-missed Nirvana Azzopardi had brought this unlikely idea to fruition two decades ago. They may only have been joking about there being a Teatru Unplugged 20 at the time, but here I am, putting pen to paper and jotting a few words precisely about the show's 20th anniversary edition. It

MALTA TAKES LONDON BACK WITH 5TH EDITION

Who would've thought five years ago that Malta Takes London (MTL) would become an annual occurrence. An ambitious event that started out as a simple gig but evolved into a mini-festival based around musical talent with a Maltese connection, MTL has grown into an eagerly anticipated live gathering whose audience has gradually become a mixed bag of UK-based Maltese residents as well as a significant number of British and other UK-based foreign music fans from Europe and beyond

    LACUNA COIL IN CONCERT

The latest in the Rock 'N Malta series of concerts that brought us amazing performances from the likes of Krokus, The Hives and Procol Harum continues with this Friday's concert featuring Italian Gothic Metal band Lacuna Coil. Formed in Milan back in 1994, Lacuna Coil are inspired by a combination of Gothic imagery and metal music, their melodies brought to the fore thanks to an effective two-pronged vocal front. To date the band, which had at one point been nominated for an

    SACRILEGE: RISING FROM THE ASHES

Formed in the mid-1980's, UK metal band Sacrilege's story is curious and inspiring. They rose to prominence as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, only to disband just five years later. In 2012 the band was resurrected, albeit with a different line-up, and has, over the past five years, risen from its ashes to become a force to be reckoned with once again. Michael Bugeja spoke to Sacrilege's founding member Bill Beadle ahead of the band's performance at this year's M

    NIL BY MOUTH RETURNS

The Wedding Present made themselves known from the get-go with a debut album named after the notorious Northern Irish football legend George Best. In truth however, The Wedding Present could have called their album anything, as their star was firmly in the ascendant at the time thanks to their self-styled jangly pop tunes from up North. Their sound has evolved since the heady days of 1987, and despite a seven-year break in 1997, the Leeds band has lost none of its verve or ed

    IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE!

If you're familiar with the music of Winter Moods, you'll probably have recognized the title of this article as part of the lyrics from their song My Neverland. Alongside Marigold, Everyday Song, Miss You and Everlasting, it is one of their more popular ballads. Anyone who knows Ivan Grech knows only too well that love, in its many forms, has never been far from any song he has penned and, given the philanthropic cause linked to his recent second solo concert, its significanc

IVAN GRECH CONCERT RAISES EUR20K+ FOR ALS MALTA

With his band Winter Moods currently on a break, frontman Ivan Grech, clearly unable to resist the itch to get back on stage, got together with a band of musicians to put on a solo concert; hardly surprising really, given the success of his first such venture last year. Of particular note this year, having the production costs of the concert covered by partners and sponsors made it possible for all revenue from ticket sales and other donations collected on the night to be pas

EARTH GARDEN TO GO AHEAD AS PLANNED

The organizers of Earth Garden have released an official statement, declaring that the Earth Garden Festival will go ahead as planned despite the fact that the date of the general election called last Monday by the government clashes with this year’s edition of the popular festival. “It’s definitely business as usual for us. We're not going to lie - we were taken aback by the announcement of the general election as we've been working extremely hard on this year’s edition for
