SOLO CONCERT FROM DON ROSS

Canadian guitar virtuoso Don Ross will be visiting Malta to give a solo live performance at Teatru Salesjan in Sliema on Wednesday, November 5.

Ross is a unique composer and performer, considered by many as one of the best acoustic finger-style players of our time. He is also the only person to date to win the US National Finger-style Guitar Championship twice, in 1988 and 1996. His innovative approach has influenced people like Andy McKee, Antoine Dufour and countless other greats, while his main sources of inspiration include the likes of John Renbourn, Pierre Bensusan, Keith Jarrett, Egberto Gismonti and Pat Metheny and fellow Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn, who has in turn commended Ross, saying that “nobody does what Don Ross does with an acoustic guitar. He takes the corners so fast you think he's going to roll, but he never loses control".

So far, Don Ross has released over 12 albums, most of them topping many of the “all-time best acoustic guitar recordings” lists in prestigious music publications, among them Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Furthermore, Teja Gerken from Guitar Player Magazine has also praised Ross in his reviews, describing him as being “on the forefront of the contemporary finger-style guitar movement, and it is no exaggeration that his groove-oriented style has influenced a generation of fingerstyle players”.

Ross will also be giving a two-hour masterclass on Thursday, November 6. The class is open to anyone with an appetite to learn something new and everyone is welcome to join, but please note that availability is limited. For more details, click here.

The concert will take place at 8pm on Wednesday, November 5 at Teatru Salesjan in Sliema. Local guitarists Chris Tanti and Andrew Francica will be the opening act. Tickets cost €15 and are available either from SunSounds (Sliema), Chocolate District (Valletta), Knight Music (Hamrun) or by calling 79205402.
