KAZINSKA, GIZIMINA + MALTESE VINYL

It could have easily been called Lejla Maltija or something similar, but instead it’s simply called KażinSka + Giżimina + Maltese Vinyl Selection, at least that’s how you’ll find it on Facebook. In choosing to forego giving the event a name however, the organizers have instead focused their efforts on the music that will be on offer, and there will be lots of it, that is a promise!

Of particular note, the event will be the launching pad for Ġiżimina. This new project from London-based Maltese artist YEWS digs deep into the Maltese songbook and folk tradition for inspiration, while effectively presenting vintage sounds in a contemporary context.

The main act on the night will be KażinSka (listen here). Not that they should need any introduction, but it’s worth mentioning that whenever they’re around, one can expect a party to follow. Rowdy and rambunctious they may be, but there’s certainly nothing to fault about their rousing rhythms and boisterous presentation and, in the band’s own tagline for the event, ‘merry-making, melodious tunes extracted from the traditional marches and some absurd comedy outbursts!’

Last but not least, the event will also feature a DJ spinning vinyls of Maltese bands form the past. The occasion for this gathering of mużika bil-Malti also has a philanthropic side to it, in that is aims to raise funds for various mission projects run by the MSSP in the Philippines, Peru, Pakistan and the order’s own St. Joseph Home for children in Malta. It will all be happening on Sunday, July 5 in the courtyard of St. Joseph Home in St Venera as part of the Oħloq Tbissima fundariasing initiative. For more information, click here.
