On Friday, May 16, UK band Angel Witch will be headlining Metall Insula’s latest event. This triple treat, supported by Cisk Export Premium Lager, will also feature Maltese Doom metal stalwarts Forsaken and Ascendor from Gozo, will be the local promoters’ second event in less than a month, having staged the Bombers gig at the end of April.
Angel Witch’s history dates back to 1977, when they first emerged as one of the leading names of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement alongside the likes of Iron Maiden, Saxon and Tygers Of Pan Tang. They soon attracted a significant loyal following, their debut album, which even now is hailed as an all-time classic, consolidating their position as prime movers in the heavy metal world. Over the years, the band has gone through various line-up changes and even called it a day back in the 90s.
In 2000 Kevin Heybourne - the band’s guitarist, singer and chief songwriter - reformed Angel Witch with a brand new line-up culled from the cream of London’s Doom scene. The new formation immersed itself into performing live, a tasking schedule that included festival and club appearances all over Europe and the UK, some Japanese dates as well as a tour with Candlemass and Trouble. In 2012, the band released As Above, So Below; its first studio album in 26 years.
Tickets for the event cost €22.50 (advance)/€25 at the door and are available online either from www.metallinsula.com and ticketa.com.mt or from Kickstart Rock Bar in Sta. Venera.
