ROCKNA INTERVIEW WITH JONATHAN SHAW (TEATRU UNPLUGGED)

It's actually hard to believe that 18 years have passed since Teatru Unplugged unveiled its first edition on an unsuspecting Maltese audience back in 1998. But pass they did, during which time, dozens of bands and artists, both local and foreign, have been given the amazing opportunity of performing on the Teatru Manoel's prestigious stage.

Amid the countless moments of musical splendour and all-round entertainment however, there will forever be an empty space, that previously occupied with such delightful presence by Teatru Unplugged co-founder Nirvana Azzopardi, who was sadly taken from us way too early only a few years ago. By keeping Teatru Unplugged alive, fellow co-founder Jonathan Shaw and the TU team have paid Nirvana the best tribute ever, as every edition since her passing always reminds us of her inner and outer beauty, and of just how a special a person she has been to so many throughout her accomplished life. This year's edition will again commemorate Nirvana through an initiative aimed at raising funds for the RIDT’s Breast Cancer Research Project.

GO Teatru Unplugged 18 will be held on Friday 4, Saturday5 and Sunday 6 December at Teatru Manoel in Valletta. This year’s performers include Sophie DeBattista, Mistura, Alex Vella Gregory (aka Ċikku l-Poplu), Dana McKeon & Renzo Spiteri, Mikaela and Beangrowers. Jo Caruana will be hosting the show.

The event is supported by GO, Baileys, The Point, Camilleri Paris Mode, Monsoon and BrndWgn.

Tickets for the show usually sell out fast but there should still be some left. Click here for tickets.
