Telegram is the title of the debut album from The Busker. Scheduled for release on Friday, December 2, 2016, the 15-track album features a mixture of folk, pop and Blues. Composed and produced by the band members themselves. the album, which was recorded at Sub Studios, is inspired by the sounds of the 1960s, its content delivering an effective vintage quality in both song-writing and overall vibe.
Other than the core band members, Telegram also features long-time collaborator Matthew Pellicano, guitarist Andrew Francica as well as Netherlands-based Maltese singer-songwriter Alexandra Alden. the latter having a special connection with the band since their first gig was in fact opening for her at Coach & Horses.
In a comment about the album, the band remarked that “this album represents the journey the band has been through during the past two years", adding that "at times it can be uplifting, at times melancholic and at times it sends out a ‘get up and dance’ vibe...pretty much the way life is”.
The result of a year of hard work, Telegram is predominantly influenced by the sounds of legendary acts such as The Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, The Beatles as well as contemporary acts such as Nick Waterhouse and The Lumineers.
The Busker started out as a duo in 2012; Jean Paul Borg on percussion and Dario Genovese on guitar, but over the past two years.. the line-up has grown to include David Grech on bass and Sean Meachen on saxophone.
On the night of the launch, the four-piece line-up will be expanded further with the inclusion of more musicians playing trumpets, trombone, piano, electric guitar, percussions and even a small choir, which will offer the audience a more authentic representation of the album.
The Busker is a well-established live act on the local scene, having performed at a number of major events such as The Farsons Beer Festival and Marsovin Wine Festival, as well as other intimate venues such as Django Jazz Bar and Magazzino Hall in Valletta.
In October this year, The Busker released the first single from the new album, It’s Alright (I’ve got the blues), which topped the local PRS chart, retaining the top position for more than two weeks.
